URL is acronym for Uniform Resource Locator. Simply, it's just the address of an online place or store (web site). For Microsoft browser (IE), it is the box next to the word “Address” and usually contains : http://www.WebSiteName.com .

You would type in this box if you know the name of the site that you want to visit. You then delete “WebSiteName” and type in Yahoo, Google, CNN, or Nytimes, depend on where you want to go.

Some people may confuse this URL box with the search box in Yahoo or Google.

The Yahoo search box is next to the word “Web Search” and the Google search box is next to the word “Search”. You use search box to find information on the Internet by typing key words such as “Computer Guide”, Caribbean Vacation”, “California Real Estate”, “2008 Election”, etc. to find news or information related to your key words. The results of the search pages will present to you web sites that best match your search terms. You then click on the sites that you want to visit.
